Title: Investigating An Essentially Cobalt- and Nickel-Free Alloy For Patient Sensitivities and Changing RegulationDate: Wednesday, September 30, 2020**
Time:** 1:00 PM EDT**
Duration:** 30 minutes
Nickel sensitivity in the United States is estimated at 12% by the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), and exposure to nickel ions released from the normal wear of medical implants can lead to adverse side effects. BioDur 108 is an FDA approved, essentially nickel- and cobalt-free alternative to other stainless steel options and is currently used for several medical applications such as implantable orthopedic devices, high-strength surgical instrumentation and orthodontic devices. Typically, devices and instruments are produced via subtractive manufacturing which include processes like cold-working the raw material to achieve improved mechanical strength in a finished component.
In this webinar:
- Carpenter Additive will discuss the latest developments on BioDur 108 additive manufacturing with a focus on powder chemistry and 3D printed components on a Laser Powder Bed Fusion machine. Our preliminary results showcase the realization of cold work properties in a 3D printed component.
